[Cultural Heritage]Korean Empire palaces in Seoul, Changdeokgung
It is one of the Korean-Korean Empire palaces in Seoul.
And it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Yurgokuro 99, Jongno-gu, Seoul
This palace was built in 1404 by Taejong, the third king of Korea, with the aim of being in Hanyang. In the first half of Korea, it played the role of the second palace after the main shrine Gyeongbokgung, and played a positive role in the second half of Korea.
There was a Gyeongbokgung Palace and a two-sided regime in the first half of Korea, and a twosided regime with the Gyeongbokgung Palace in the second half of Korea. In many cases, the kings of the Joseon Dynasty lived in alternation while going back and forth between the two shrines of this both-sided system.
For this reason, it was a palace that was apt to be used in Gyeongbokgung Palace in the first half of Korea, and on the contrary, in the latter half of Korea, the king often left Changdeokgung in order to use Gyeonghuigung Palace. In 1868, Gyeongbokgung Palace was rebuilt and lost its status as a shrine. In 1907, Jongjong became the Imperial Palace again, and it was the palace that shared the fate of the Korean Empire and its fate.
From the early days of the founding of Korea to its destruction, the Joseon Dynasty was the only palace that had existed for a long time, and the Joseon Dynasty was the only palace that maintained the status of both palaces under the two-sided regime. For the longest time, it was a Korean palace. Since the establishment of the Korean government, the former Korean Imperial royalty lived until the latter half of the 20th century, and played a role of palace for a long time after the Joseon Dynasty. It is not an exaggeration to say that Changdeokgung, not Gyeongbok, should be chosen as the representative palace of Korea
